Learn more about a clinical research study.

Researchers are studying an investigational vaccine to see whether it protects against pneumococcal disease. Pneumococcal disease is caused by a type of bacterium that is a major cause of infections in the ears, sinuses, blood, lungs, or brain.

Researchers will test the safety of the investigational vaccine, see how well the investigational vaccine works, and see how bodies handle the investigational vaccine. This study will also test to see if there are differences in how the body responds to the investigational vaccine versus an approved vaccine that is already on the market. Another purpose of this study is to see how the investigational vaccine works when given at the same time as other recommended childhood vaccines.

Your baby may qualify for this study if he or she is 42-90 days old when beginning the study and:

  • Is healthy based on medical history and a physical examination.
  • Has not received a dose of any pneumococcal vaccine.
  • Has a parent or legal guardian who will agree that the study doctor or staff may be in contact while his or her child is in the study, will attend all study center visits, and will comply with the study procedures.

There are additional eligibility criteria that the study doctor can further discuss with you.
